A SHORT BACKGROUND TO THE LENKIEWICZ FAMILY NAME AND THE SWAN KING!

There are many stories relating to my family. 

On my grandmothers side a relative was the court painter to Ludwig II Of Bavaria the Swan King. 

My grandfather Issac Lenkiewicz was  from Grajewo, Poland and my grandmother Baroness Alice von Schlossberg from Bavaria Germany. Alice (von Schloss-Berg) and Isaac (born in Grajewo, Poland) married in Golders Green in 1940 having arrived as Jewish refugees from Germany the previous year.

The Schlossberg  (Schloss - Castle and berg - hill) histories are fascinating and one my father would sometimes tell with a smile. 

Baroness Alice Von Schlossberg would often remember better times long past in Germany and tell of her great family history to the young Robert Lenkiewicz. 

One memory was that the family had close connections with the Swan King Ludwig II of Bavaria having been Knighted and also that a family member was one of the court painters to the Swan King. 

I had the opportunity to ask a friend who was travelling there recently to bring back some photos of the frescoes! 

The image below displays the magnificent Great Hall ceiling fresco within the Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, Germany. There are many paintings and frescos in the castles and palaces of the Swan King of Bavaria.  

The comparisons with my father’s works are hard to ignore and stunning!

It is hard not to draw the conclusion that perhaps he was inspired by the family stories of his ancestral heritage told to him with pride by Alice or perhaps the mysterious talents and passions that flow through the generations influenced his life.

A very beautiful victorian diamond and 18k Gold Ring sold to a wonderful and very happy young couple. Setting off on their journey together. Romance is in the air and we are happy to help.

A stunning Japanese Bronze Tiger circa 1900. This was sold to a regular customer that actually has a collection of these Tigers this is the third! 

ANTIQUES RIVIERA CHANNEL FOUR

I watched the second episode of the show and was actually very happy with the section on our gallery!

It was really very positive and great advert for the business.All day today people have been coming in saying how they were inspired to visit because of it. 

So it fantastic and its also good advertising for my fathers legacy even if it is only a small bit.

Narrated by the brilliant Robert Webb (of Peep Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look fame), the show captures the unique energy of the "Ashburton Antiques Experience" that permeates the town’s streets.

A Summer of Fun and Filming
“It was an amazing experience being part of the Antiques Riviera show and having the film crew in the shop throughout the summer.

It has also been lovely to get to show off the shop a bit and show all the paintings jewellery and antiques.

It was great getting to know everyone involved and seeing how a show like this is filmed.

The crew were fantastic I remember we certainly drank a lot of coffee. It was a unique experience for me and it’s going to be interesting to see how it all comes together.
I am also excited to see the episodes and to see what Robert Webb does as the narrator. It’s strange as I was such a fan of the peep Show.

I remember throughout last summer the town was buzzing with more than just its usual local charm.

Being part of the show was a really fun experience, and we loved having them in the gallery. It was a wonderful way to spend the summer, celebrating the art and history we have right here in Ashburton."

This is new early landscape from 1965 by Robert Lenkiewicz is now available from the Lenkiewicz Gallery contact for details. It is possible the first landscape Lenkiewicz did from his home in lower Compton Mannamead. The garden where he is buried.
